The agents that make up the Acquisition layer can be hardware devices like the 4i DASH and its satellite 4i DOTS, software components that are installed on existing computers, or software components that are installed right in the 4i server itself.
All the agents are capable of working in a distributed way (that is, in remote locations far from the server) and storing data that’s en route to the server for prolonged periods of time to avoid data loss due to a weak internet connection or problems with server availability.
