Storage Size

< 1 min read

4i Platform utilizes an adaptive algorithm of data compression that is based on the data type and a historical analysis of the signal.  Therefore, it is impossible to calculate the storage used by a variable.

However, the maximum daily storage size of a variable can be determined by the following formulas:

  • For Numerical Tags: 1980 Mb / ScanRate  [milliseconds]
  • For Binary Tags: 860 Mb / ScanRate [milliseconds]

A numerical tag that is sampled at one second occupies a maximum of 2Mb per day, but the storage size for a typical industrial numerical variable after compression is approximately 750 Kb per day.
