{"id":13281,"date":"2025-04-21T16:47:58","date_gmt":"2025-04-21T16:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mmihitarian"},"modified":"2025-04-21T18:08:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T18:08:37","password":"","slug":"typical-architecture-of-industrial-information-systems","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/support.4iplatform.com\/?docs=typical-architecture-of-industrial-information-systems","title":{"rendered":"Typical Architecture Of Industrial Information Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most common ways to represent the architecture of an industrial plant is as a pyramid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17432 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/support.4iplatform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image2-300x203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">At the base of the pyramid is the level of sensors and actuators, forming what we call <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">Instrumentation<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"> or<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"> Level 0.<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">\u00a0 Above that level are the programmable control systems, such as <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">PLCs<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"> and <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">DCSs<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">, which are collectively known as <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">Level 1.<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">\u00a0 These, in turn, involve operators through <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">HMI<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"> or <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\">SCADA<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"> systems, which can have their own scripts, that is for a particular line, for example, for the managing recipes or calculating setpoints.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At the top of the pyramid are the decision systems of the company, also known as Business Intelligence, such as MES.\u00a0 These allow the examination of a company\u2019s behavior at the management level using metrics and operation systems known generically as ERP, that track activities such as invoicing, inventory management, purchasing, human resources and other functions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most common ways to represent the architecture of an industrial plant is as a pyramid.
